Recently, I created a video on How to waterproof paper jewelry . After sharing this video, I get lots of queries about water resistant vs waterproof.
The answer is when I am creating paper jewelry for personal use,I water resists my jewelry using simple and cost effective methods . This means that my jewelry won’t get damaged even if I caught in the rain, or it accidentally drops into a liquid.
However, if I make it for selling or gifting ,I usually make it water proof .
I don’t know any product that 100% waterproof your paper jewelry. This means it never guarantees to wear your jewelry while swimming or taking a bath.
Here I am sharing some of the methods I used to make my paper jewelry water resistant .
Clear Nail polish
This is the very simple and cost-effective way to waterproof your paper jewelry. After making your jewelry apply one or two coat clear nail polish and allow it to dry for a while.
This will give your jewelry a glossy finish and also makes it water resistant.
Crystal Coat Glaze
After finishing your paper jewelry, apply one coat of crystal coat glaze using a paintbrush and allow it to dry. Now you can see the perfect finish and glossy look in your paper jewelry.
If you are making paper jewelry for your own use, try any of the above methods. They are cheap and make it water resistant.
If it is for selling, you must use any non-toxic, non-yellowing varnish to waterproof your paper jewelry.
This method is a little bit costly, but your jewelry looks more beautiful . I am using Liquitex Professional Gloss Varnish . It cost around 10 dollars for an 8oz bottle.
